Highfields is a ‘School of Character’
Some good news…
We want to share with students, parents and friends of Highfields that we were recently ‘gently inspected’ by the Association of Character Education, which is affiliated to the University of Birmingham.
We have in turn been awarded the ‘School of Character’ Kitemark which recognises both our commitment and our practical approach to developing the whole person. The letter informing us of this award speaks about Highfields as follows:
“The culture of the school has transformed over the previous 2 years, and character has been a central pillar to this change.
Longer serving members of the school were explicit in their description of the tangible change that had taken place. Staff described how the school had moved from an approach driven by the containment of challenging behaviour through sanctions and discipline, to one where respectful relationships were cultivated and sustained.
This was reinforced by students who reported feeling ‘respected,’ and listened to…”
We are just the 2nd PRU in the country (other than Links Academy St Albans) and the 2nd education provider in the North West (other than Wise Owls Trust) to achieve this. Well done to all staff and students who took part!
